Sailor
A sailor is a person who occupies sea vessels and assists in their operation, maintenance, or service, whether it be leisure, maritime trade, military, or scientific.
Within our Pyrate references, a sailor can also be called a Jack Tar or just Tar. Tar is the substance used in 1700-1800s ships to keep the water below the waterline safe from the ravages of water, whether salt or fresh.
If you've manned a yardarm, walked a deck underway or turned the wheel of a boat. . . you are a sailor. If your boat-life has been limited to an oar or foot-driven-paddle, then you are NOT a sailor, you are still a landlubber.
